This is a good post. I had problems with this for a long time, about not being genderqueer or trans enough, but lol I am sooooo far past that now :) People are REALLY silly if they want people to stop being gender variant. I mean heck what does that even mean? It all ties up back to some very stupid idea of gender “normal.”
On the other hand, it’s important for people to remember that just cos we’re all gender variant together doesn’t mean that we’re the same. Genderqueer folks who don’t plan to transition need to respect that they don’t have the same experience as someone who does, and binary transsexuals need to respect that they don’t know what it’s like to be nonbinary. Because I’ve been burned by both kinds of people.
Basically, your kind of gender variance =/= everyone’s kind of gender variance.
Oh, and one more thing: Not every gender variant person is out there to “smash the binary.” I am who I am because that’s who I am. Not because I have a social agenda.
