Creeeeeeeeeeee
I have checked out Spoken Cree from my library despite part of my brain yelling at me that it is probably a really bad idea to start learning Swampy Cree when I haven’t even entirely got Plains Cree under control. But it was just sitting there, such a thick and beautiful-looking lesson book!
(You see, Michif was the first Algonquian language that I learned. I didn’t have any actual lessons, just speakers and a few vocabulary lists and sentences. While I really value the way I learned Michif, and it definitely taught me a lot of useful skills to learn that way, I still salivate a little bit any time I see a really well-made guide to learning Native American languages.)
Nimiyeumewak lwiizoo. Nimiwêyimêwak piyêsiwak. Niminwênimêwak pinêsiwak. Niminwenimaag binesiwag. Oh dear. (Michif - Plains Cree - Swampy Cree - Anishinaabemowin. Translation: I like birds.)
